The Origin and History of Fake News

Since Election 2016, the term "fake news" has made it's way into the popular lexicon. The term "fake news" really isn't all that new (it goes back to the late 1800s), and the concept actually dates back to ancient times.

Misinformation and Disinformation Definitions

Experts have argued that the term "fake news" does not adequately describe the complexities of incorrect and misleading information that exists. As a result, the terms misinformation (the inadvertent sharing of false information) and disinformation (the deliberate creation and sharing of information known to be false) are used instead.
