Books can provide in-depth coverage for even big topics, but they can be an intimidating resource for research because they're so darn long. Don't let the length worry you, though, because the good news is... You don't have to read the entire book! Instead, there are two different approaches to take:
You might begin by reading a book review. A book review provides an overview of the entire text, including description of the author's experience and expertise as well as analysis of their arguments. A book review also provides a brief summary of each section and/or chapter within the book. Using this information, you can pick the one or two chapters that seem most relevant and just read those.
Alternatively, you might begin by browsing the book's Table of Contents, which likely organizes each chapter chronologically or by theme, and it's Introduction. Not all books include this, but the Introduction is important section to read if possible because it allows the author to speak directly to the reader and explain why it was written, including what makes it special aka what new knowledge it adds to the world.
Happy researching!
