Welcome!

The Diverse Music Score Initiative strives to increase Towson University's score collection with along the following priorities:

  • Include composers claiming a wide range of racial and gender identities
  • Respond to the repertoire needs of TU students, especially as required for private lessons and small ensemble practice
  • Accessible to TU community for check-out to enable study at home
  • Preserved for long-term use with sustainable binders

This guide presents the most recent additions to the score collection, funded by a Cook Library's DEI Action grant. Using the funds supplied by the Library, the grant team (Christina Gibson, Tracey Gilchrist, Adam Zukowski, and Whitney Blake) purchased 72 titles as well as the materials needed to house the scores and make them accessible to the TU community. The grant supported employment of a Federal Work Study student, Naomi Graham, who was chosen out of a robust applicant pool to engage with physical processing, cataloging, display, and outreach for these materials. As part of her work, she developed this Guide, as well as a display featuring Women Composers from Around the World (see page three).

Work to expand the music score collection and students' access to it is ongoing. To request purchase of a title, contact Christina Gibson, cgibson@towson.edu
