Tiffany Chavis, MSW, MLIS is an enrolled member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina and is the Research and Instruction Librarian at the Towson University (TU) for the College of Health Professions. In this role, she serves as the liaison and subject specialist to the departments and programs of Allied Health, Audiology & Speech/Language Pathology, Gerontology, Health Care Management, Health Science programs and minors, Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Occupational Science, and Physician Assistant Studies. In addition, Tiffany plans and teaches information literacy for the CHP disciplines and provides research assistance and reference services to students, faculty and members of the university community. Before coming to TU, she was the Outreach and Education Librarian at the University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) for the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM). There she fostered partnerships, coordinated outreach efforts, and provided education programming, with a focus on consumer health, health literacy, and patient education, with the overall goal of building partnerships and improving access to health information for librarians, other information professionals, medical and public health professionals, researchers, and communities throughout the region and across the United States. Tiffany has also worked on archival projects focusing on Indigenous identity and description at other area universities (University of Maryland (UMD) & University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC)). In December 2021, Tiffany graduated from UMD with her MLIS, focusing on Archives & Digital Curation and Youth Experience. Before making the transition into archives and libraries in January 2021, Tiffany was practicing as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW-C) in her hometown of Baltimore, MD. In 2004, she received her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and a minor in Women's Studies from UMBC. In 2006, she completed her Master’s Degree in Social Work, with a focus in both clinical social work and management and community organizing, at UMB. During her career as a social worker she practiced in various areas, including behavioral health, homelessness, case management, outreach, medical, child and adolescents, program management, forensics, etc. Tiffany continues to be an active member in various professional organizations since 2021.
