Things to Think about (Evaluation):
- WHO wrote it / is responsible for the content?
- How do you know they are WHO they say they are?*
- WHERE does it appear/was it published?
- How do you know how to think about WHERE it has been published/posted?*
*Opportunities to read laterally (investigate WHO & WHERE) before you invest in WHEN & WHAT questions
- WHEN is the information from?
- WHAT:
- Is the source relevant to your topic/question/thesis?
- What type of evidence does the source use? (You can further laterally read on some types of evidence)
- What is the tone? What biases does the source have (stated or unstated)?
- What does the author argue, or want you to do based on the source?
Life is too short for bad info!! Remember to read laterally and only get to WHAT/WHEN once you feel confident about WHO & WHERE the source is coming from!
