Below are "Best Bets," some of the most important tools that you will use for history research. These tools are specifically focused toward academic scholarly articles.

Use the tabs on the left to find:

background information from encyclopedias, atlases, and other sources
secondary sources, such as scholarly articles and books
primary sources, such as newspapers, diaries, and images (among others)
tools to help with archival research and historiography under the advanced research tab

Academic Search Ultimate This link opens in a new window
Collects over 7,000 journals from all disciplines, including history and the humanities.
America: History and Life This link opens in a new window
The largest and most important database for U.S. history. Has some overlap with JSTOR but not all items are available full-text.
Historical Abstracts This link opens in a new window
Collects world history (outside of North America) materials from 1450 to present. Some articles are available full-text, but many are only abstracts.
JSTOR This link opens in a new window
Collects over 450 scholarly journals from the Arts, Humanities, and Sciences including many history journals. Has a large number of older journals going back to the 19th century.
