Welcome!

Welcome to the research guide for MNGT 481's case for Fall 2024!

This guide includes sources for researching organizations (nonprofit and for-profit), athletics and programming, and customers (potential members/programming participants and their families).

  • First, read the case thoroughly, and take stock of any leads from the Q&A session
  • For your initial research, try the resources on this first page of the guide.
  • You may then want to look into news sources on the next tab as a first step.
  • Scholarly articles are an additional way to understand issues related to nonprofits, children's sports programs, the target market of children, etc.
  • You can do a deep dive on your customers on the Customer Information tab.
  • Information on Citing Your Research is also included.

I'm here to help! Please reach out with any questions as you work on the research for the case.

Organizations

Of course you'll look at the website for the Towson Y/Y in Central Maryland. Here are other resources that are useful for researching the YMCA, other nonprofits, and for-profit competition.

Understanding Nonprofit Annual Statements (990s)

The client has provided financial information as part of the case materials, but if you'd like to do a deeper dive, nonprofit annual statements, called 990s, are often available from Guidestar/Candid.
