Research Tech: AI, Citations, Data, and More

This guide provides an overview of technology that supports every stage of the academic process—from reading and organizing sources to conducting literature reviews, managing citations, analyzing data, and sharing research.

Journal Suggesting Tools

Not sure where to publish your research? We can help with that! With these tools, you'll be able to enter text from your title and abstract and receive a list of potential journals which you can explore further.

Citation Management Tools

Citation management software can help you:

  • Conveniently and securely store, organize, and track sources by project, class, or theme.
  • Create accurate citations and bibliographies instantly in any format (including APA, Chicago, and MLA).
  • Easily find and retrieve sources you’ve previously saved.

Data Citation

Citing Data

It's important to cite data right. Proper citation ensures that research data can be:

  • discovered
  • reused
  • replicated for verification
  • credited for recognition
  • tracked to measure usage and impact

How to Cite Data

Citing data is straightforward. Each citation must include the basic elements that allow a unique dataset to be identified over time:

  • Author
  • Title
  • Distributor
  • Date
  • Version
  • Persistent identifier (such as the Digital Object Identifier, Uniform Resource Name URN, or Handle System)

Citing Generative AI

Generative artificial intelligence aka Gen AI tools are changing our relationships with work, school, and each other. It can be very helpful for certain tasks, like translating across languages or providing alternative text for images. However, it can also foster overreliance on the technology and minimize long-term learning. This brief activity will help you understand how and when to use Gen AI at TU.
