Towson University (TU) began in 1866 as the Maryland State Normal School (MSNS), a school to train teachers for the state.
In 1864, the state constitution was re-written and included the creation of the school and the construction of a building to house it. However, it would take 10 years before the first MSNS building was constructed.
This guide suggests resources to explore the school's original locations, the transition to the campus now at Towson, and the evolution of that campus since its creation over 100 years ago.
